This substation located in Matugama (Low Country Wet Zone), just 10 km from the RRI consisting of 73 ha is one of the Divisions of the Dartonfield Group. The Genetics and Plant Breeding Department (G&PB) is situated here with office and laboratories, large multiplication nurseries and staff quarters for the Department staff. Much of breeding activities including hand pollinations, evaluation of progenies and clones take place here. Most of the area is in experiments. Apart from the research and technical staff one field officer and supporting staff manage routine estate activities.
