The Kuruwita sub-station (Low Country Wet Zone) established in 1960 has 100 ha totally occupied by field trials essentially on clonal evaluation. An Experimental Officer of the Genetics and Plant Breeding, An Assistant Manager and two Field Officers manage all activities. The flat, fertile land enables yields often exceeding 1300kg/ha/yr. All trees in tapping are rain guarded enabling tappings exceeding 325 /yr, the consequence, however, is the high incidence of panel dryness (brown bast).
